Class Descriptions

Beginning Yoga Classes

These classes are designed for those students who are new to Yoga. They are sequential and set a foundation for all of the other yoga classes. Students will explore many of the basic forms, principles of alignment, relaxation techniques, breathing practices and more. This class includes a 60 minute practice CD that reinforces some of these basic techniques. Some of our students like to repeat this series before moving on.

Beginning II

In this class students will deepen their practice and understanding of yoga. Review and practice of the basic postures, alignment, breathing, meditation and relaxation techniques will be explored. This class is great for beginning students and those who want to master the basics. Students may want to explore this class after taking the beginning I series but previous experience is not required.

Hatha I

These are drop in classes and no registration is necessary. The classes are not sequential, and each week we will be exploring different practices that are appropriate for students with out any previous yoga experience. Postures, breath awareness, relaxation and more will be included in these classes.

Hatha II

These are drop in classes for students with some prior yoga experience. These classes build on the foundations set in beginning classes. Detail to form, principles of alignment and refinement of inward exploration are combined with practices of postures, breathing, relaxation and meditation.

Seniors

This class is ideal for older adults. Yoga is done with the aid and support of some props (i.e. chairs, bolsters etc) in an effort to enhance the experience of movement. Relaxation, breathing, and meditation are also an integral part of this class.

Heart Restorative

This one hour class is useful for those with Heart disease or risk factors or other stress related conditions. It is built on the Yoga Practices used in the Dean Ornish program for reversing heart disease. Techniques used will include some gentle movements, breathing practices, relaxation, meditation and imagery.

Flow Yoga

An enthusiastic blend of yoga asana, kriya and creative movement.  This class honors the tradition of formal practice while giving voice to self-expression.  All levels are welcome, but some experience with vinyasa style movement is helpful. Fresh and liberating!!!

Kundalini: All levels

This practice works directly on the glandular system, boosting metabolism and elevating mood.  Powerful breath exchange linked to repetitive movement (kriyas) surcharges the system with healing prana and just feels GREAT. If you have never tried kundalini this class is a must. Flexibility is not required!

Kids Yoga

Children are big souls in little bodies who learn best from their own experience.  This 4-week session works on self-trust by speaking to their "inner-knower" and provides a framework for them to blossom.  We will also be sharing body/mind exercises for improving focus and promoting a calm state of mind.

Anahata

A gentle, heart centered Hatha yoga designed to bring students to a higher level of awareness, to deeply connect, expand and awaken the heart through asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing), and meditation.   As the heart center opens, it corrects bad posture, opens the chest, shoulders and lungs, allowing more life force to flow into the body.

Anahata Yoga is a gentle flow class that increases flexibility and strength, the release of toxins and a heart centered awareness promoting emotional balance.  Every class includes hands on adjustments to keep you safe and help you gently advance your practice.  Posture modifications are offered according to individual needs for "beginning beginners" and those with physical limitations as well as progressive instruction for students more advanced.

"When all the knots of the heart are broken, then the mortal becomes immortal."
(Katha Upanishad 6.15)

Yoga Twelve

A heart centered Yoga practice designed specifically to complement and deepen twelve step spirituality for all faiths. Program focus is on centering, letting go, opening your heart to healing and cultivation of a relationship with a Higher Power (of your understanding)  through the practice of postures, breathing, relaxation and meditation.  You need not be in a recovery program to attend, all who wish to deepen their spiritual life are welcome!

Community Yoga

Open to everyone. It is a general class that focuses on postures, breathing, meditation, relaxation and some philosophy. It is our way to make yoga available to everyone. There is no charge for this class, donations are accepted not required.

Mantra Yoga

(Kirtan and Chanting)

Mantra yoga is Bhakti yoga (devotion) and Karma yoga (service) combined. During a session we chant traditional yogic prayers and kirtan and then chant the Mahamritunjaya Mantra 108 times for healing. Chanting is a powerful practice that celebrates and heals the individual, the community, and the world. We welcome anyone to join us at anytime. Handouts make it easy for you to participate.
